Matted Pet Release Form
**PLEASE READ FULLY BEFORE SIGNING** This form is in addition to our GROOMERS' RELEASE FOR
It is the goal of Paws N Claws Grooming to make your pet’s grooming experience as stress free as possible.
There is an additional charge for de-matting starting for small and Medium dogs as low as $15 and as high $90. For large and XL Dogs starting as low as $20 and high as $120 *PRICES ARE BASED ON SEVERITY, SIZE, TIME NEEDED and in most cases we don’t know exact cost until we start to work on your pet, so all quoted prices are ONLY an estimate and Paws N Claws reserves the right to charge additional fees for services we consider over and above the norm covered by our standard rates. Price increases will apply for matting, fleas, behavior, etc.
Undercoat and hair removal becomes necessary when a coat is tangled beyond the ability to brush through it. The most humane method is to shave off this hair. Shaving may seem severe, but it is the least stressful and least painful way to groom a matted pet. Cosmetic appearance is secondary at this time. Any other method of hair removal is too painful for your pet in such a condition.
We do not offer a full de-matting brush out service, but we do offer a partial de-matting. When possible, we work to de-mat/brush any hair that may be saved, but only when it will not cause excessive pain and suffering to do so.
It is fairly common to find pre-existing conditions that become apparent only when the matted coat is removed. Our groomers will always bring anything he/she may notice to the owner’s attention. Paws N Claws Grooming cannot diagnose conditions but may advise that the owner seek veterinary care for their pet.
Matted coats and mat removal can cause the following problems but not limited to:
- As mats get tighter, they eventually pull out of the skin, causing bald spots and sore skin.
- Mats inhibit proper air circulation to the skin causing increased body heat in these areas. This creates an ideal environment for many skin related health problems (hotspots, bacterial/fungal infections, etc.)
- Skin pulling. This results in chafing and abrasion over time and cause pain when you pet moves
- Working so closely to the skin increases the risk for stress, trauma, or injury. All precautions will be taken; however, some problems may arise such as nicks, clipper irritation, etc.
- Mats create an ideal environment for parasites such as fleas & ticks. If either is found, Paws N Claws will give a Flea/tick bath. *Additional fees apply for small & medium dogs $10, large for $12, XL 15. Cats $12
- Ear bruising (hematomas) due to excessive head shaking after removal of mats.
- Sunburn if your dog is kept outside for long periods of time after removal of mats. Prevention of this includes Pet sunscreen, skin coverage (pet clothes), and reduced time outside.
I have read and understand the above. I am aware that my pet has matted hair. Understanding these risks, I authorize Paws N Claws Grooming to proceed with the de-matting process and to shave off any and all matted hair as necessary. I also know that the cut may be shorter than I wish. Should my pet(s) need any veterinary care during or after this process. I agree to pay, and all veterinarian fees. I also understand the risk of de-matting and release Paws N Claws Grooming, owners, and staff of any liability. By signed you are stated you are the Pets owner and/ or Responsible Party.
